District 9465 Changeover Dinner 2021

It was a great night at the District 9465 Changeover dinner held at the Royal Perth Golf Club.
The outgoing District Governor Colin Burns and incoming DG Pat Schraven outlined the achievements for the past year and the road map 2020-21 going forward.
Congratulations to Wendy Cooper for being awarded the Rotarian of the Year award and to Ken Williams who received the Erwin award.
The night’s proceedings were finalised with the handing over of the “Home of the District Governor” banner to the Rotary Club of Rockingham.
Our guest speaker last night was Made Delaveris from the Rockingham Mermaids.
The Rockingham Rotary Club donated funds earlier in the year to assist Made’s group and invited her back to tell us about the Mermaids.
The Mermaids were established in 1976 and they currently have 25 members, they are a swim club whose members are single older ladies, ladies caring for spouses and the occasional fella.
The club is more than just a swim club as it provides friendship and support for their members and ensures that members are there to assist in times of need.
Made was very complementary of the Rockingham Council who had assisted the group in access to the beach and facilities to support their members who had mobility issues getting to and from the water.
Made also gave the club an insight into her time as a Rotarian where she was the first female member of the Rotary Club of Rockingham.
The Winner of this month's Good Egg Award was Tyler Nicholls.

Rockingham Rotary Grant's Night

The Rockingham Rotary Sunday Market allows the Rotary Club of Rockingham to support many worthy local organisations who assist our community.
One of our major annual events is the Grant’s Night which was interrupted last year by the COVID-19 shutdown and even though we still made the grants we weren’t able to have the celebratory event.

This year’s event was a great success with 11 local organisations being the beneficiaries; these being;
The 10th Light Horse Troup
 Hillman Hornets Cricket Club
 Rotary Club of Baldivis
 Port Kennedy Primary School P&C
 Rockingham City Football Club
 City of Rockingham RSL
 Rockingham Swimming Club
 Warnbro Sound Scout Group
 RockyOra Softball Club
The Cruising Yacht Club of WA
Totally & Partially Disabled Veterans of WA

Well done to all these organisations for the work you do in the community.
The Honourable Mark McGowan MLA
Premier Mark McGowan has been made a Paul Harris Fellow by The Rotary Club of Rockingham who believes his life exemplifies the humanitarian and educational objectives of The Rotary Foundation.
We thanked the Premier for demonstrating in his life and vocation a commitment to helping persons in need here and around the world.
The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
The Paul Harris Fellow is named for Paul Harris, who founded Rotary with three business associates in Chicago in 1905.
Paul Harris Fellow recognition was established in his honour in 1957 to express appreciation for a contribution of US $1,000 to the humanitarian and educational programs of The Rotary Foundation.
These programs save and invigorate the lives of people around the world and enhance international friendship and understanding.
Rotarians in several countries including Australia designate a Paul Harris Fellow to recognise another person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of The Rotary Foundation.
